Seed Savers Zebrune Shallot

This delicious echelion (or banana) shallot originated in France, where it is called 'Cuisse de Poulet du Poitou' (chicken leg of Poitou). Plump, pinkish-brown bulbs taste sweet and mild, making them an excellent choice for both everyday and gourmet cooking. This long-day variety produces large yields in the first year (if planted early) and keeps extraordinarily well, ensuring a good supply over many seasons.

Instructions: Sow seeds indoors in flats just beneath the surface of the soil and space 1" in all directions. Transplant outdoors as soon as soil can be worked in spring. Keep shallots well weeded with shallow cultivation.

  • Start Indoors: 4-6 weeks before transplanting
  • Germination: 4-10 Days
  • Plant Outdoors: 6” Apart
  • Light: Full Sun
